As part of that thinking, they do not want multiplayer world events to require a lot of players.

I wonder if desolation and multiplayer can really coexist, though. The world felt pretty desolate before I saw other players bolting around the first town I encountered, and then running toward the exact same boss I was. I thought of World of Warcraft, and of course Disneyland (it’s hard not to at Anaheim). There’s no queuing or anything like this, but seeing gamers that are clearly on precisely the same pursuit, but aren’t a permanent part of the world, reminds me this isn’t just my adventure.

Diablo is a multiplayer-focused series, however eight players adventuring at a Diablo 2 match (or PKing each other) creates a different sense compared to,’Poof, here are a few additional people you can play with, but when not, they will disappear into the server void and you’ll meet more people in another town.’ Again, though, this is clearly a demo designed to be quickly digested in a conference, and the programmers are considering these issues. PvP zones will clearly feel very different.

The explosions of loot are another reminder that I’m chasing amounts within a compulsive loop, to be honest, but perhaps I am immunized to their mood-breaking effect after enjoying so much Diablo 2 and 3. Legendary things were plentiful in the demonstration, and had the most silly titles I expected. The Sheltering Highland Trousers of Grounding gave me +6 harm reduction from enemies from melee range, also +13 lightning damage resistance. The Stone of Jordan is a ring which match me +1 Rank to all outfitted skills, which is pretty sweet.
